Wow! I found this article that will interest you if you want to find a quick and effective way to boost your creativity…and no it is not by brainstorming.

According to this article nearly every area of your thinking improves with 30 minutes of exercise including creativity.

And the type of exercise that you do does not matter and the creative boost is said to last for a minimum of two hours afterwards.

Clear Your Mental Blocks

The next time you think that you are blocked for ideas or are having trouble figuring out the solution to a problem try a quick workout at home.

This is just one more great reason to start a workout at home regimen.

For years you were taught that the way to increase your creativity was to brainstorm with a group of people but according to this article one of the most of effective ways to boost your creativity is with 30 minutes of aerobic exercise.

Aerobics Dead or Alive?

Now if you have read any of my posts you know that I think that aerobic exercise is dead and based on recent research more intense exercise like the PACE 12 minute workout is scientificly proven to be more effective at expanding your lung capacity and bullet proofing your heart.

Unfortunately this study does not tell us if shorter term more intense exercise will boost your creativity as well but I would hypothesize that it does.

Hey, let me know in the comments below if you have ever noticed that exercise makes you more creative or helps you to solve problems more easily afterwards. I would love to know if there is anything to this story.

Forget Brainstorming

By Po Bronson and Ashley Merrman

Newsweek.com

Brainstorming in a group became popular in 1953 with the publication of a business book, Applied Imagination.

But it’s been proven not to work since 1958, when Yale researchers found that the technique actually reduced a team’s creative output: the same number of people generate more and better ideas separately than together.

In fact, according to University of Oklahoma professor Michael Mumford, half of the commonly used techniques intended to spur creativity don’t work, or even have a negative impact.

As for most commercially available creativity training, Mumford doesn’t mince words: it’s “garbage.”

Whether for adults or kids, the worst of these programs focus solely on imagination exercises, expression of feelings, or imagery. They pander to an easy, unchallenging notion that all you have to do is let your natural creativity out of its shell.

However, there are some techniques that do boost the creative process:Don’t tell someone to ‘be creative.’

Hi Workout At Home Fan,

I just read this great article that has ten ways that you can workout at home for way less money than what you would spend on a home gym or expensive gym membership.

You can get all of the items in this article for under $200.

One item on the list costs just five dollars…can you guess what it is?

I will give you a hint.

The greatest heavyweight fighter of all time Muhamad Ali used it to train.

It is also used by kids on playgrounds.

The article lists Suspension Trainers as being the best bang for your buck but then goes on to recommend The Monkey Bar Gym.

I know that I am biased but the TRX Suspension Trainer even though it costs more is a lot better investment because it extremely heavy duty as evidenced by its use by pro athletes and trainers in all sports and it will allow you to perform over 300 bodyweight exercises anywhere.

When you buy a TRX Suspension Trainer you are essentially getting a very portable gym in a bag.

As far as the Monkey Bar Gym goes …it is okay but have you ever heard of a pro athlete using one?

I rest my case.

Check out the rest of the items on the list below to see if you can create a workout at home that will suit your needs.

Get A Great Workout At Home For Less

The Dallas Morning News

Dropping the extra winter weight or deciding to firm up for swimsuit season takes all kinds of discipline and commitment. Financial discipline and commitment, however, are not among the requirements.

For less than $125, you can afford the basic equipment you need for an overall workout at home, says Dallas trainer Pauline Stafford. Spend a little more, and take your home gym to the next level.

Although Stafford has a fully equipped garage gym where she trains her Freedom Fitness US clients, she says that building a home gym is all about knowing yourself and what you’ll actually use.

The Internet can provide inspiration or instructions on new ways to use what you have.

The items Stafford recommends for your home gym can be found at a variety of stores.

Hi Workout At Home Fans,

All I can say is WOW!

My pulse sped up when I found this for you and I am sure yours will as well…

I have a treat for you if you are looking for an incredible abs work out at home that you can do with two of the most portable and effective gyms on the planet… the TRX Suspension Trainer and the Kettlebell.

The fusion of Kettlebells and the TRX Suspension trainer will quickly improve your aerobic conditioning, agility, flexibility, mobility, balance and functional strength as well as flatten your abs and stomach with a workout at home.

The TRX® Kettlebell™: Iron Circuit Conditioning DVD will feature the top kettlebell trainer in the world Pavel Tsatsouline and Fitness Anywhere’s Director of training Chris Frankel.

If you are thinking that this workout will be too tough for you think again.

When you click on the link below to read the rest of this article you will come to a page with a sample clip of the The TRX® Kettlebell™: Iron Circuit Conditioning DVD and you will notice that each exercise with the kettlebell or TRX is demonstrated three ways.

You will be able to choose the begginer , moderate, or advanced version for each exercise that is demonstrated based on your fitness level.

So even if you are a beginner suspension trainer or new to kettlebells you can do this workout.

This TRX and Kettlebell workout is ingenious because as you get stronger you will want to move up to the more advanced exercises.

You better listen closely to what Pavel says though because he is old school…mess up now and he will be having you do pushups later.

But seriously Pavel may seem really tough and serious but he has a great sense of humor and he will grow on you with time.

And you can rest assured that you are doing the exercises safely because you are getting instructions from two of the best trainers that the world has to offer.

And what is amazing to me is that the kettlebell and TRX are so affordable yet these are the chosen fitness tools of some of the best athletes and trainers in the world.

Yet both the TRX and Kettlebell can be set up quickly and used in a small space in your home or office.

TRX and Kettlebells Unite!

By Fitness Anywhere

You’ve been asking for it, and now [drumroll please] here it is! Launching July 19, the TRX Kettlebell™: Iron Circuit Conditioning DVD & Guide will be available for purchase through the Fitness Anywhere website.

We’ve partnered with Dragon Door Publications, the world leading kettlebell experts, to bring you this 120 minute cutting-edge program utilizing both the TRX® Suspension Trainer™ and RKC® kettlebells for an intense 10 rounds of interval training. (Check out this sneak peak below.)

“The TRX® Kettlebell™: Iron Circuit Conditioning DVD merges two of the most ground-breaking training methods to hit the fitness industry in decades,” said John Du Cane, founder and CEO of Dragon Door Publications, Inc.

“The fusion of the TRX and kettlebells will push and challenge your body in a new way, not only strengthening muscles and improving aerobic conditioning but also increasing explosive power, mobility and balance.”

Hosts former Soviet Special Forces trainer and Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC®) Chief Instructor Pavel Tsatsouline and Fitness Anywhere’s Director of Programming, Chris Frankel demonstrate a comprehensive setup and introduction of the TRX and kettlebells, a warm up followed by a 60 minute real-time workout that alternates between each method for intervals that strengthen muscular and aerobic endurance, featuring a series of hybrid TRX/kettlebell exercises to ultimately challenge power and stability, and then finishing with a cool down.

Hi Workout At Home Fan,

I found something exciting for you if you want to flatten your stomach and get six pack abs without resorting to infomercial gadgets that dont work or without having to go to a stinky gym or spend a lot of money on a home gym or treadmill that will always be in the way.

This brief article is from Mike Geary who is the creator of the best selling abs work out program on the planet called The Truth About Abs.

Mike is all about providing you with information that will work.

He tells it like it is with no fluff or B.S.

The following article is short but powerful.

Mike has three exercises that he would like to share with you. These ab exercises are not what you would think of as being traditional ab exercises but Mike promises that they will do more to flatten your stomach than crunches or situps ever will.

The 3 Best Abdominal Exercises that Are Not Traditional Ab Exercises

A unique ab workout that doesn’t contain your typical boring stomach exercises –

no crunches or situps here

by Mike Geary – Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer

Instead of the typical ab routines that we see so often with crunches, situps, leg lifts, etc… I like to give my readers better options for metabolism-boosting high intensity workouts that work their entire body while also working their abs… thus building rock hard abs & core, but also creating a much better fat-burning workout than a typical ab workout.

I’m going to show you an example today of one of my favorite “ab workouts” that doesn’t include any direct “ab exercises” at all. It’s in a tri-set format (similar to a super-set but alternating between 3 exercises).

Hi Workout At Home Enthusisast,

I found a great article that is ideal for you if you would like to exercise less and benefit more.

Or if you would like to burn more fat in a shorter period of time with an invigorating metabolic workout as opposed to a slow workout where you are slogging away on a treadmill or stationary bike for hours on end.

If you have tried going the slow boring traditional cardio route you have probably found that with time it quit working and that this old approach may have even served to help you gain weight.

This is frustrating …I know because I’ve been there.

I tried doing an hour a day on my treadmill while watching T.V. as the pounds piled on.

But I have moved on and now I have new guru’s and new beliefs that serve me better.

My favorite fitness guru’s are all in agreement that long, slow, boring, traditional cardio is dead.

Dr. Al Sears author of the PACE 12 Minute Fitness Revolution, Craig Ballantyne the creator of Turbulence Training and now Mike Geary crator of the most popular Abs program on the internet – The Truth About Abs all agree that traditional cardio is dead.

They differ some on the workouts that they choose but they all prefer intense metabolic workouts that get you where you are huffing and puffing as you focus on the intensity of your workout as opposed to mindlessly peddling or walking while you watch T.V.

Mike Geary says that if you can watch TV during your exercise then you are not doing it right.

When you are told a lie or misinformation for long enough it becomes to be regarded at the truth.

For years you were told by Jane Fonda, Richard Simmons, Oprah, Jim Fixx, Dr. Kenneth Cooper and just about everyone else that slow boring cardio was the way to get healthy.

But what if they were all wrong or misguided?

Read the article below to see if Mike Geary makes a good argument or not and let us know what you think by posting your comments….be sure to read the whole article to discover some specific exercises you can do with a quick invigoration workout at home.

Do You Really Need “Cardio” Workouts?

Are cardio workouts or weight training more effective for losing fat…

by Mike Geary, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer

In this article, I have an intriguing discussion about cardio workouts, which will hopefully get you thinking differently, and trying new things.

You may know I’ve been called the anti-cardio guy before, but this week I’m back posing the question to you… Do you really need cardio training to get lean and in great shape?

By the way, you’ll see in a minute that I’m not really “anti-cardio”, just “anti traditional cardio”.

Most fitness buffs, weekend warriors, or anyone trying to get in shape or lose body fat, consider it a fact that they need “cardio” exercise to accomplish these goals.

They would never even question it.

However, I’m not only questioning it, I’m going to refute it!

In fact, you may be surprised to know that some of the leanest and meanest people I know (men and women), NEVER do any type of normal or traditional cardio. And I’ve spent over 15 years working out in various gyms, and hanging out with athletes of all sorts, so I’ve seen it all.

Hi Workout At Home Fan,

If you want to get visible abs with out spending money on equipment or going to a stinky gym …

It doesn’t get any better than this. .. I found you an interview with legendary fitness experts Craig Ballantyne of Turbulence Training fame and Mike Geary the creator of the most popular ab program on the internet – The Truth About Abs Abs program.

Mike Geary is a certified personal trainer as well as a certified nutrition specialist.

In this interview Mike Geary will shatter some of the myths regarding what he calls worthless ab exercises, worthless infomercial ab machines , gadgets and rip off fat loss pills.

You will be surprised to learn that ab exercises are not the secret to six pack abs.

Read on and discover the specific real exercises and nutrition information that you will need to have a trimmer stomach and more visible abs.

Discover how to get visible abs with an intense metabolic workout at home.

Fat Loss for Visible Abs — Workouts, Nutrition, and Lifestyle Tips for Success

Craig Ballantyne, Men’s Health Training Advisor interviews Fat Burning Expert and Personal Trainer, Mike Geary

CB: Mike, let’s start off with some background on the types of people you train, and your training background.

MG: Craig, I’ve been a Certified Personal Trainer for almost a decade now, and in recent years, I’ve become certified as a Nutrition Specialist as well. As for the types of people I train… I’ve trained everybody from skinny teenagers looking to add some bulk to their frame, to middle-aged housewives and businessmen looking to lose body fat, to senior citizens looking to get stronger and leaner in their golden years.

CB: You have a site, The Truth About Abs. So…what the heck is the truth?

MG: Well Craig, from what I see on a daily basis, one of the most common fitness goals people have is to get a flatter stomach and if possible, achieve some sort of a “six pack abs” appearance to their midsection. Unfortunately, most people struggle for years without ever achieving this goal.

Instead, I see so many people waste so much of their time on worthless abs exercises, and falling for every gimmick product that comes onto their TV screen promising them a 6-pack in only 2 minutes a day while sitting on their couch.

To be honest, seeing so many people over the years waste their hard earned money on all of these worthless ab gadgets, machines, and bogus fat loss pills was really getting under my skin.

I have found a great article for you if you don’t like to actually exercise.

This is a great fun workout at home to incorporate into your daily housekeeping routine.

Does brisk house cleaning count as a workout?

You have probably read the same articles that I have that say that doing stuff around the house does not count as a real workout but I think the article below will convince you otherwise.

You can have a clean home and be fit too.

MizzRene of the Discovery Health community has come up with creative ways for you to shed some pounds while cleaning your home.

She has suggestions as to how you can incorporate lunges lunges squats and bodyweight exercises in the laundry room or do lunches and crunges while in the kitchen…there is even a link to a video that shows you how to workout in your kitchen while using your stainless steele appliances…you have got to see the video…you wont believe it.

House Cleaning: Can it be Considered a Workout?

By MzzRene

Discovery Health Community

I don’t know about everyone else, but in my house I do the majority of the cleaning, and there’s three of us in the house.

I don’t have a very large house, but it’s big enough to where it’s easy for things to get out of place. Dust settles quickly, and our carpet is a lint/dust magnet. No body likes to clean the bathroom, so that leaves me.

Then there’s the bird cage which is supposed to be my daughter’s responsibility, but I don’t have the heart to let the poor thing starve or live in a dirty cage (it’s a parokeet named Monty).

And I spend anywhere from an hour to 2 1/2 hours of cleaning my house…usually when noone’s up or around to get in my way.

Often I work up a good sweat. I keep plenty of water on hand just to keep me from getting dehydrated because when I go on a cleaning spree, I don’t stop until the house smells April fresh.

So, I ask the question, “can house cleaning count as a workout?”

Hi Workout At Home Enthusiast,

I found this great article from Fitness Expert Mike Geary.

This article is for you if you are serious about getting a hard body with a workout at home using your own bodyweight.

Mike Geary says that one of the ultimate exercises is the frontal squat.

Mike is a an advocate of short intense metabolic workouts and proper nutrition he is not a believer in long boring cardio workouts that neglect your core.

You can do a frontal squat workout at home using your own bodyweight.

Mike Geary says that exercises like leg curls, tricep presses, bicep curls, leg extensions are a waste of time if you are looking to get a rock hard and functional body.

He says that you need to spend your time doing exercises that will exercise large groups of muscles and that you need to stop trying to isolate a single muscle group.

Mike brazenly states that if you dont believe him then go to your gym and observe overweight and out of shape people who are pumping away doing long boring mindless cardio and not getting much result to show for all their work.

Do This Ultimate Hardbody Workout at Home

The Ultimate Hard Body Exercise

By Mike Geary

The Front Squat:

As you may have already discovered, the squat is at the top of the heap (along with deadlifts) as one of the most effective overall exercises for stimulating body composition changes (muscle gain and fat loss).

This is because exercises like squats and deadlifts use more muscle groups under a heavy load than almost any other weight bearing exercises known to man.

Hence, these exercises stimulate the greatest hormonal responses (growth hormone, testosterone, etc.) of all exercises.

In fact, university research studies have even proven that inclusion of squats into a training program increases upper body development, in addition to lower body development, even though upper body specific joint movements are not performed during the squat.

Whether your goal is gaining muscle mass, losing body fat, building a strong and functional body, or improving athletic performance, the basic squat and deadlift (and their variations) are the ultimate solution.

If you don’t believe me that squats and deadlifts are THE basis for a lean and powerful body, then go ahead and join all of the other overweight people pumping away mindlessly for hours on boring cardio equipment.

You won’t find long boring cardio in any of my programs!

Squats can be done with any free weighted objects such as barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, sandbags, or even just body weight.

Squats should only be done with free weights – NEVER with a Smith machine or any other squat machines! Machines do not allow your body to follow natural, biomechanically-correct movement paths.

Hi Workout at Home Enthusiast,

This may be the craziest workout that I have ever found for you.

It is called ZombieFit.

Zombie Fit is a zany program created by a Chicago Lawyer that is based on the premise that if the world were to suddenly end you will need quickness and functional strength to navigate through the rubble and urban decay that is left behind in order to survive.

Zombie Fit is for you if you like using your imagination as motivation to workout and are serious about improving your speed and functional strength.

ZombieFit requires you to lift and throw heavy objects, run quick for long distances and negotiate various obstacles as you elude those pesky zombies.

Functional strength is what you need to do things around the house like carry heavy grocieries, or climb stairs or do gardening in the yard.

Functional strength will keep you walking when you are old and maybe even when you become a zombie.

Or maybe you really do fear the apocalypse or the year 2012 and you want to have the strength to outrun and outclimb the zombies.

Hey it could happen.

Check out the details of Zombiefit in the post below:

Fitness for the apocalypse: New program ZombieFit Has You Running For Your Life

BY SHERRY MAZZOCCHI

New York Daily News

Think you can outrun them?

Try out your athleticism against killer zombies in ZombieFit, a new fitness program.

You never know when you’ll have to out run a zombie.

That’s why the Chicago Tribune reports one of the newest workout trends in the Windy City is ZombieFit.

It’s an all-out fitness program designed to allow anyone to survive a zombie attack.

Based on the practice of parkour, the exercises are a functional fitness system. ZombieFit emphasizes running obstacle courses, climbing and vaulting over the everyday detritus of an urban terrain decimated by the undead.

Rich Gatz, a 28-year-old lawyer who founded the program, told the Tribune, “If you’re ready for the zombie apocalypse, you’re ready for anything.”

Designed to deliver robust strength and agility, it’s a rigorous workout regime…

Hi Workout At Home Enthusiast,

I found this great article from the Oklahoman Newspaper that outlines the best fitness clothes to wear regardless of whether you want to workout at home or at the gym.

You may choose to just use some old shorts and a T shirt to workout but choosing the proper workout clothes can actually improve your workout performance by making you cooler and more comfortable.

For example certain fabrics cool and wick better than others.

Also if you decide to workout outside you may want to consider the SPF factor of your clothes. Some clothes are specificly designed to screen out harmful UVA and UVB rays similar to suncreens.

Also mentioned in the article below is a new kind of fitness shoe called Five Fingers that fits on your feet similar to gloves so that you can simulate natural running and walking.

I checked out the reviews on Amazon for the Five Fingers fitness shoe and the remarks were mostly favorable.

Fitness Clothes Designed To Give You A Better Workout

Fitness apparel, sport-specific clothes and shoes are designed for better fit and performance.

BY LINDA MILLER

NewsOK Powered By The Oklahoman Newspaper

We’ve all seen her — not a hair out of place, perfectly placed blush and lipstick. Her body-hugging workout outfit coordinates from head to toe.

And him, well, not even the Incredible Hulk could fill out that sweaty, oversize T-shirt.

Dolling up just to go the gym is a bit extreme, and unnecessary if your purpose is to exercise, but some clothes do work better for getting a workout. And it’s not the oversize shorts and shirt.

Most performance clothing lines offer quick-dry or fast-drying tops and bottoms, said Mike Holmes, manager of Sun & Ski Sports. Usually they’re made of polyester or polyester blend with a hollow weave so moisture is pulled quickly from the body.

“These materials are so much nicer,” he said. “Cotton tends to hold moisture. Quick-dry is more efficient than cotton.”

Not only are these clothes more comfortable, they provide a better fit and better performance for the sport you’re doing, he said.

And while many of the garments fit close to the body, they don’t have to be skintight.

That’s personal preference.

More important is that all clothing is lightweight, comfortable and fast-drying.

John Beck, who owns Red Coyote Running and Fitness with his wife, Burke, said when the body sweats, you’re using more energy. By letting pants or shirts do the work by pulling moisture away from the body, you save energy.
